Montparnesse
©Jade Blackmore

Black lights flashing,
laughter so suspicious,
waking me up after midnight.
The boulevard fresh with rain,
the sad tingle along skin.
Finger lock.
Pulse running rampant.
Outside our window
mongrels bark,
bottles shatter,
lovers are abandoned in mid-embrace.
But your lips enjoy their bidding.
The persistence of your sex
spoils me for the future.
I dress in black and pearls,
playing against type,
crossing the street
a little too slowly,
burning a return ticket to hell.
All the proof I need of God's existence
is in your eyes.
